Admission requirements

Applicants should hold a general university entrance qualification, referred to in Germany as the “Abitur”. Since education systems differ all over the world, the TUHH will check whether the specific qualification is equivalent to the “Abitur” which allows the applicant direct admission to a university course.

Otherwise, the qualification may give entitlement to commence studies at a German university only in conjunction with an additional aptitude test, to be acquired in Germany (“Feststellungsprüfung”). As a rule, candidates for the Aptitude Test attend a one-year preparation course at a preparatory college (“Studienkolleg”).

Applicants who have certain previous school qualifications may also be permitted to apply directly to take these examinations as external candidates. It is important to include in the application full details of previous school education. Furthermore, if applicable, proof of taking the university entrance examinations that are prescribed in some countries or of any previous university studies should be added. Officially authenticated photocopies of all relevant documents will be required.

All applicants should have a sufficient proficiency in English. They are expected to show proficiency in English by taking TOEFL or IELTS. The minimum TOEFL score required for the course in General Engineering Science is 550 (paperbased)/ 213 (computer-based)/ 79 (internetbased). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5.

The knowledge of German has to be proved by a certificate on the level „Zertifikat Deutsch“ from a recognized institution, and in addition, the German language examination (DSH-2 or TestDaF) has to be passed after 2 semesters at TUHH.

The application deadline is July 15th.
