Rooms for International Freshmen
Studierendenwerk Hamburg and Accommodation Office TUHH have entered into cooperation to design a program with the purpose of increasing the number of rooms available to applicants who aim to complete a degree program at TUHH and are arriving directly from abroad. The aim of this program is to provide as many international students as possible with a room in a hall of residence for their freshmen year. (Please note that the prices and conditions vary for Erasmus Mundus students.)
Rooms can be rented for a fixed period from 15th September (subject to availability) until 31st August. All rooms are distributed on a first come, first served basis. This means that candidates who apply first, receive an offer first. Those who wish to accept the offer and commit themselves to a room should then reply within the period stated on their personal offer and fulfill the conditions given.
Halls of Residence with rooms available
Some rooms will be available in the “Triftstrasse” hall of residence. The whole building was completely refurnished and refurbished in 2004. The rooms are located in modern two room apartments. This means that two students live in single rooms and share a small kitchen and bathroom. These rooms cost €309 per month.
Other rooms will be available in the “Harburger Häuser” and ”Wohnhaus Harburg” halls of residence. They are in apartments in which between two and six students live together and share kitchen and bathroom facilities. They will cost about €251 per month. The size of the kitchen and quantity of bathroom facilities correspond to the number of students sharing the apartment.
Application procedure
→ Here you can find an application form for a room in a hall of residence in.
→ If you are interested in a room in the program “Rooms for International Freshmen”, please return the form with a photo to the Accommodation Office.
All applications should reach the Accommodation Office TUHH by 15th August.
Completing the application procedure
When the Accommodation Office TUHH has received a student's application form with a passport photo, we will send a concrete offer of a room. The deposit of €380 is payable on booking the room (€480 for Triftstraße). €80 of this amount will be kept by Studierendenwerk Hamburg when the student moves out at the end of the year to cover costs for renovation, repairs and to keep the room in good condition. The remaining amount of €300 (€400 for Triftstraße) will be returnable to the student after the rental agreement has ended on 31st August, providing that the facilities are left basically clean and undamaged.
When the above-mentioned conditions have been fulfilled, the room will be booked for the student for the period mentioned above. Rooms are always rented on a yearly basis so that there are always rooms available for new international students at the beginning of the academic year. All rooms are furnished and have an internet connection where you can plug in your computer.
Here you can find the check-list for the application procedure (pdf).
Compass - Live-in Student Orientation
When you have obtained a room in this program, you will have the possibility to take up email contact with special student hall tutors from the program: Compass - Live-in Student Orientation. They will be able to give you further information about day-to-day living in halls of residence in Hamburg. They will also be able to assist you on your arrival in Hamburg so that you will be able to make a good start on your course at TUHH.
