GOLEM - Group-Oriented Teaching through E-Learning and Multimedia

The e-learning research project GOLEM introduces a group and role-oriented concept to the course Man-Machine Interfaces at the Technical University of Hamburg (TUHH). The course focuses on problems of man-machine communication and different aspects of “usability-engineering“.

Student groups develop and test interfaces during the course period. Electronic communication systems (video and audio) are used to carry out “usability-tests“. To imitate reality, tests are performed in a distributed manner. The video and audio connections among users located in separate rooms help to create a realistic test environment and provide numerous practical experiences to the students.

The role-oriented concept (administrator, developer, test person) during the test phase ensures that students get the opportunity to experience various dimensions of “usability-testing“. Therefore, GOLEM offers students a highly realistic and practical learning experience.
