Aalborg University is a fairly new university with only 30 years of age (www.aau.dk). There are approximately 13.000 students at the university and it is situated in one of the most charming cities in Denmark. Aalborg University is renowned nationwide and even in other countries for our method of studying. In each semester you work in groups writing a problem-based project. Each group has a supervisor attached. At our university we have a very relaxed relationship with our professors, which among other things help provide a very good studying environment.
Studentersamfundet is the largest student union at the university (www.s-et.aau.dk). It is optional to be a member, but for students only wanting to be a member for one or two semesters there is a special membership. We work with political issues of relevance for students - both nationally and internationally. We have several (Friday-) bars, two big university parties a year and there are many other social activities all year around.
The city of Aalborg is known all over Denmark as a very festive city, the reason for this being a 200 metres long street packed with bars and restaurants, called Jomfru Ane Gade (or simply 'the Street'). In Aalborg we also host the biggest carnival in Northern Europe. Aalborg is a very popular place to live; it is easy to find a place to live, it is a cultural centre (with theatres, concert halls, museums - in all genres), there are good possibilities of practicing any kind of sport on any level and even though it is a fairly large city it is close to nature (forests, beaches etc.) Aalborg is also the city, where one in every 10 person has some relation to the university (e.g. students, professors, secretaries etc.)
