Systems biology and process engineering are jointly used to develop highly productive
strains and efficient processes for chemicals and fuels from renewable materials such
as glycerol and sugars. In particular, microbial communities and miniplant technology
are used for biorefinery of biomass, aiming at zero release of waste in bioconversion.
