Transport
In a world of increasing globalization of products and services
worldwide transport plays a key role. Sea transport is the leading
mode optimizing economical and ecological requirements. TUHH/ISSUS
aims at understanding and improving ship-related business processes
in the context of the whole transport and supply chain including
transhipment, storage and pre- and post-sea transports by road,
rail, inland waterways or air.
The impetuous increase of container transports is truly challenging
ports and terminals operating at the brink of their capacity. The
imbalance of container flows resulting in large quantities of empty
containers to be shipped back requires new co-operation concepts
even between competing shipping companies. Protecting transports
against theft, fraude and misuse for terror activities and integration
of security aspects into the business processes requires new solutions
based on the potential of information and communication technology.
Transport generates traffic, meeting infrastructures at the limit
or even beyond of capacity. Maintaining mobility needs intelligent
control concepts. Maritime transport is the most environmental-friendly
transport but still has a potential for improvement by combining
technical, organisational and behavioural measures.
The strength of TUHH/ISSUS is to be close to Hamburg's port and
transport industry continuously involved in problem definition and
solution finding in all field of sea transport. Hamburg is one of
the most prominent transport and transport services node in Europe
covering all areas from movement of goods and passengers via insurance
and finance to multidisciplinary science.
