Technical Hints

  • The password to use for Windows is the same Kerberos-password that you use for logging on to UNIX, Linux or picking up your mail.

  • With an expired password (for ex. when your password is reset ) you have to use your full user account name, similar to "smxy1234@KERBEROS.TU-HARBURG.DE" (note the capital letters!). Alternatively you can login at a UNIX workstation or use the web-interface for a password-change.

  • When logging on for the very first time ever in any XP-Pool, please wait a while to let various automatic preparations finish. Please log off once after that. After that you can start your regular use with a completed personal profile, regardless on what XP-Pool machine.

  • To avoid misunderstandings concerning the LanguageBar, you should take a look at the explanation .

  • Drive H: is the home directory. In this directory you should store your own files. On that drive you have limited diskspace.

  • You can find drive U: in your UNIX-home-directory as directory windows. Accordingly you have as much diskspace an drive U: as you have under UNIX. If you klick on drive U: in the Explorer, you have access to all of your UNIX files. Note that if you never had any UNIX-Files in that location, you will not see this networkdrive from Windows.

  • At present you have 60 MB for your user-profile. If you exceed that quota you can't logout as long as you don't delete enough files from your profile.
This is often caused by files that you have stored on your Desktop instead of your homedrive!

  • The majority of applications that need to be configured use My Applications as setup-tool!

  • Please note that Seamonkey is already configured for e-mailing.
