  • Computer Access
Computer access for students of the TUHH
Computer access for employees of the TUHH (PDF / web form)
The basis for the computer access is the user guidelines

  • Operating Systems
The pools of the computing center are operated as following:
    - Windows XP: pools 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 as well as the StuDi-pool (room 2029/2031)
    - Linux (RedHat): pools 3a, 3b, 3c
further information in the hardware/server overview.

There is only one password for working in the pools - the so-called kerberos-password

  • Software for the home working place

  • Unix instructions

Persons who forgot their password have to show a valid id-card and then get a new one in the USC
Who can't login anymore because his disk quota is exceeded, has to delete unnecessary files in the USC, or with help from a fellow student

  • Beamer-usage in the pools

  • Changing your password
Persons who want to change their password for UNIX and Windows XP must use:
    - the "passwd" command under UNIX
    - the STRG+ALT+ENTF shortcut. In the following dialog-window you find "Change Password..."
Attention: changing your password under Windows XP, you have to add "@KERBEROS.TU-HARBURG.DE" to your login (Ex.: vwyx1234@KERBEROS.TU-HARBURG.DE). Changing your password in the xp-pools

  • settings for the proxy-server
    You find the documentation here!

  • Contact Persons in the computing center
Service requests and incident reports are to be addressed directly to the User Service Center. Here the Service requests and incident reports are received and worked on. If it is necessary, other colleagues in the computer center are asked by the USC colleagues to answer the service requests and solve the incidents. Outside of the opening times you can contact the USC by mail: usc@tu harburg.de.

  • Guide
Basically each user of the Computing Centre should be able to inform himself independently about the possibilities for working in the Computing Centre via the computing center homepage. Use the guide as an introduction. The principles apply: read first, ask later! And: Ignorance does not protect against disadvantages!

  • Overview RRZN Scripts

In the USC you'll find manuals, reprints and computing center course notes at your disposal. RRZN scripty will only be given out to TUHH members.

  • e-mail
Each student automatically gets an e-mail address assigned. Of course, this e-mail address is revealed to the user by e-mail. The address is to be entered in the mail program before one can send out any mails. Mails may altogether not be larger than 10 MB. For the adherence to this quota everyone is responsible himself. Please note that Mozilla is allready configured for e-mail. In the current configuration your mails will be sent via SSL.

  • Internet/WWW
Each student has free internet access and can create a private homepage. On the WWW server 100 MB disk space are available by default.

  • Disk Quotas
The disk space in the pools is limited.
    Windows XP-Pool: 3 GB
    UNIX-Pool: 2 GB (softlimit) / 3 GB (hardlimit)
If the quota is exceeded, files or directories should be deleted immediately. These UNIX commands could prove to be helpful. For special projects the quota can be increased on request to Annette Helmold (UNIX, Windows XP).

  • The central page for printing is here .
Search for a suitable printer here .
Each student receives a print quota from 5 euro for each semester. Its purpose is compensation of misprints, there is no free print quota!
More information about the print quota here .
You can find pricing information here .

  • Searching prints

  • Background pictures (p. ex. AutoCAD)

  • Packer
Data is frequently packed, i.e. compressed and archived. The packer programs used in the computing center are also available for the home PC.

  • Pool Occupancy
The Pool occupancy is available on-line.

  • Automatic Translation
For non-German speakers the machine translation engine at Altavista (http://babelfish.altavista.com) might be of use.

  • Microsoft Software-download (MSDNAA-program)
By registering in the MSDN Academic Alliance program (MSDNAA-program), professors, coworkers and students of the TUHH can use licenses for selected Microsoft products free of charge. Since the WS04/05 the new license administrative and distribution program "ELMS" of the company e-academy is installed in the TUHH. Microsoft Office ist not covered in this program.
