Login Problems

This chapter describes solutions to the most common problems people have getting through the Weblogin Service login page. Please review these problems and their solutions. If you continue to have problems getting through the "Weblogin Service" login page, please send email to usc@tu-harburg.de
  • Login Requires Cookies / Cookies Must Be Accepted
The TUHH "Weblogin Service" login page relies on cookies, so your browser must be configured to accept them.

  • Weblogin says "Login failed. Please re-enter"
The "Weblogin Service" says "Login failed" when the UserID and password did not match as entered. Make sure you enter your UserID using all lowercase characters. Also, make sure your Caps Lock key is off and your Num Lock key is on.

  • Non-Supported Web Browsers
The "Weblogin Service" is known to work with Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Firefox, Mozilla and Opera. Other Web browsers may not be compatible or may not be supported at all.

  • "A Problem Has Been Detected" and Internet Explorer
If you use Internet Explorer on the Microsoft Windows platform (e.g. Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000) you might get following error message when you try to log in:
    A problem has been detected!
Either you tried to use the BACK button to return to pages you visited before the TUHH login page, or the URL address you opened contains a shortened domain name.

If so, try clearing the cache of temporary files that Internet Explorer keeps over time:

    1. start Internet Explorer
    2. click the Tools menu
    3. select Internet Options...
    4. on the General tab, under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files...
    5. click OK
    6. completely exit Internet Explorer

Once you do this, restart Internet Explorer and try to open the Web site that you originally wanted to visit. Clearing the cache often helps with this particular error.

Browsing Problems

  • Shortened Domain Names
The "Weblogin Service" is sensitive to shortened domain names. When you open a website that uses the "Weblogin Service" make sure to specify a full unabbreviated domain name. For example, use cgi.tu-harburg.de rather than shortening it to cgi.

  • BACK Button Problems
Many Web browsers have problems backing up over the "Weblogin Service" to earlier Web pages. Sometimes you can get around this by clicking the BACK button an extra time or two. If that doesn't help, use your browser's Go menu or History button or click and hold the BACK button to choose where you want to go from your current browsing history. (Note: This problem is less common with newer versions of most Web browsers. Consider upgrading your Web browser if you frequently encounter this problem.)

  • Opening/Bookmarking the "Weblogin Service"
You cannot go to the "Weblogin Service" directly. Doing so results in an error message. Instead, use the "Weblogin Service" indirectly, by opening the actual website you want to use as described in how to log in.

Browser Problems

  • TUHH Weblogin dosn't work with Opera.
  • There are no known problems with TUHH Weblogin Service and Internet Explorer, Firefox or Seamonkey.
