„Developing a Data Mining Application“
Venue: Seminar Room 3034 SBS95
Time: Thursdays 14.00 - 16.00
Seminar Description:
Data mining is the process of extracting VALID, COMPREHENSIBLE and INTERESTING knowledge from databases using artificial/computational intelligence methods such as artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, evolutionary computing, machine learning and statistical methods. Due to the digital revolution and the explosion of data sources, the expertise of data mining will increasingly provide competitive advantage to those who master it in the knowledge economy. This seminar aims to provide participants with basic theoretical and practical know how, and with the tools needed to dig deeper into data mining.
First meeting rescheduled for Thursday April 20th 2006 at 14:00 in Room 3034 of SBS95
Seminar Program:
- Students will work in teams of up to 3 persons to develop solutions to a real life problem of the financial domain by identifying and isolating risky/bad customers from good/profitable ones
- Each team will decide on a computational intelligence model to use and research on the theoretical aspects of the model.
-
Each team will prepare a paper of 4 - 7 pages and a presentation of about 1 hour on the selected model.
-
Provided with the dataset describing the customers, each team then uses the selected model to develop a solution to the risky customer problem
Pre Requisite:
-
Strong interest in Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and data mining systems.
-
Registration in any of the International Masters Program or completion of Vordiplom studies
-
Participation in the lectures on "Adaptive Computer Systems" is desirable but not compulsory.
