Information for hosting TUHH departments & supervisors

Enrollment at TUHH
The internship students will be enrolled as  Guest Researchers and not as exchange students!
Please fill in the  TUHH Guest Researcher Form and contact the STUDIS department /Mrs Hennke/Room 0026/SBC 95E for further information and registration.

Work permit and payment/ minimum hourly wage

Voluntary (Erasmus +) interships are regarded as regular employment even if the internship is upaid! Students from  non-EU countries are allowed to work up to 120 full days and 240 half days. If they wish to work more they need a work permit from the Federal Employment Agency and Alien´s Registration Office.
Students from EU countries, similar to German students, are allowed to work up to 20 hours a week without a special permission.

Germany has a minimum wage of currently 9.35 EUR per hour since January 2021. Please check: (German text of minimum wage regulation applicable to internships.)
The minimum wage has to be paid for voluntary interships if they last longer than 3 months. Mondatory interships which are required within the study course do not have to be paid.

Visa entry regulations and ZAV application

The application at the ZAV Zentrale Auslands- und Fachvermittlung agency is sometimes required. The prospective employer will have to apply on behalf of the prospective intern at the ZAV - agency. Please inform yourself at the ZAV directly if the application is necessary.
