An I3 Lab is an interdisciplinary project of four or more professors from different fields. While it is possible for applicants to belong to the same department, a higher interdisciplinarity is preferred. External scientists (for example from UHH, DESY, HAW, HZG) can take part in the proposal, but they are usually not funded by TUHH. Agreements are under discussion between TUHH and the partner institutions. Please contact Andreas Timm-Giel (vpf(at)tuhh.de) for up to date information.
The funding can cover four PhD students (researchers) for four years, jointly required investments, support for traveling and consumables. Up to two I3 Labs will be awarded in 2019 in the fields of Bio, Green and Energy Technologies, as well as in Aviation.
The funding duration is four years. After the project has successfully passed an evaluation after two years, the fourth year is granted.
One of the objectives of the I3 Labs is the acquisition of third party funded projects. The scientific objectives and expected next steps (funded research projects with significant impact, e.g. DFG Research Unit) should therefore be included into the proposal.
All applications are to be submitted in English.
