Lufthansa Technik - MVP for usage of IoT to optimize the interface of workshop and following MRO logistic processes
Description of the company
Lufthansa Technik is a global leader in maintenance, repair and overhaul services as well as modifications in the civil aviation industry. With tailor-made maintenance programs and the most advanced repair procedures, we ensure the reliability and availability of our customers' aircraft. We are independent of aircraft manufacturers and are internationally licensed as a repair, manufacturing and development company. With more than 26,000 employees and over 30 international subsidiaries, the Lufthansa Technik Group offers a complete service to around 800 customers around the world in its Maintenance, Overhaul, Equipment, Engines, Chassis, VIP Services, Innovation and Digital Fleet Solutions business units around aircraft technology. The project is provided and supervised by the IT department "IT for Logistics". The division is responsible for the development and support of IT solutions for logistic process at Lufthansa Technik Group.
Within the Avionic repair shop the different testbenches are producing data. In 2019, the project Digital Operation Excellence developed a sustainable OT/IT-infrastructure to make this data accessible via machine-data-services. None of this data is in use to support any MRO material- and logistic processes.
After the shop event of the component, no real-time information is used to trigger the subsequent logistics processes. Several manual and time consuming steps and different IT systems are needed to start the next process steps.
Aims of the project
The aim of this study is to find relevant technical or/and process data, to create a concept and evaluate a proof of concept with the usage of data triggering automatic logistic processes.
- Process recording and definition of interfaces
- Deriving a problem hypothesis/statement
- Evaluation of available data in order to ideate
- Define a suitable use case with a value proposition
- Create a concept
- Proof of concept
Target group (students)
For this project we are looking for students specializing in mechatronics, informatics engineering or electrical engineering, who are passionate about IT. In addition to a structured way of working, the willingness to work in an agile team is necessary.
