Digitalization of the construction industry

20th "Hamburg Construction Day" for experts and industry takes place at TU Hamburg

The "Hamburg Construction Day" took place at Hamburg University of Technology for the 20th time this year. At the event on the Schwarzenberg campus, students and experts from science and construction practice exchanged ideas, this year on topics including "Building Tomorrow... with digital solutions for the construction site" and "Preservation instead of deconstruction - How digitality contributes to the preservation of the Nibelungen Bridge". The future prospects of the construction industry and the university education of civil engineers were also discussed. The event is organized by the Student Council and an annually changing institute of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering as well as the Bauindustrieverband Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein e.V.

Among the exhibitors at this year's Construction Day were Bauingenieure für Hamburg e.V., the City of Hamburg's Ministry of Urban Development and Housing and Deutsche Bahn. The companies Aug. Prien, Eggers, Hamburger Hochbahn, the Hamburg Port Authority, the SAGA Group and Stadtreinigung Hamburg were also present. The Stiftung der Bauindustrie Hamburg (Hamburg Construction Industry Foundation) awarded outstanding bachelor's and master's theses with a total prize money of 3,000 euros.

Dipl.-Ing. Christian Weber, Managing Director of HC Hagemann GmbH & Co. KG and board member of the Stiftung der Bauindustrie Hamburg, presented the prizes to the three award-winning graduates. "The quality and innovative power of the work we have awarded today impressively demonstrates how committed and future-oriented the next generations of students in the construction industry are," said Weber. "We are proud to recognize their achievements through the STIFTUNG DER BAUINDUSTRIE HAMBURG and to support them on their path to a successful professional future."

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kay Smarsly from the Institute of Digital and Autonomous Construction at TU Hamburg added: "The award-winning theses impressively illustrate how important cooperation between universities and industry partners is for practice-oriented university education. Our students have once again proven this year that they are ideally equipped to master the upcoming challenges of digitalization in the construction industry."
