This course is designed for international and German students and invites them to explore cultural aspects at the intersections of technology, natural sciences and humanities.
In order to participate, German language skills at level B1 are required.
The seminar fulfils the prescribed 4 credit points from the compulsory "German as a Foreign Language" courses for the international degree programmes.
Students from the German-language degree programmes can have 2 LP (analogous to a foreign language course) credited.
Seminar content: In the seminar Culture, Literature and Science, topics at the interfaces of technology, natural sciences and the humanities are explored. Special attention is paid to the question of the cultural prerequisites for the development of science. Culture is understood accordingly as a search for reality, as an "interwoven complexity of problems" that is "directed towards coping with reality". (Hermann Broch).
The dialogue between international and local students is to be promoted; in the meantime, Europe is coming to realise that it cannot claim to be in possession of the ultimate standards of cognition and knowledge.
