Am vergangenen Wochenende fand das jährliche FlightSimmING der VATSIM Germany am ILT statt. Die öffentlich zugängliche Veranstaltung bot von 14-22 Uhr ein interessantes Format zum Kennenlernen der Thematik aber auch zum Ausprobieren an.

In einer Online-Simulationswelt in der die zahlreichen Flugzeuge aktiv abheben, zum Zielort fliegen und auch wieder landen ist, exakt wie in der Realität, eine konstante Luftraumüberwachung, die sogenannte Air Traffic Control, notwendig. Dies wurde durch eine Gruppe von ca. 20 Personen übernommen. Dabei wird auch richtiger Sprechfunkverkehr durchgeführt zwischen den Lotsen und den entsprechenden Piloten.

Die Besucher konnten auch selbst einen virtuellen Flug durchführen am institutseigenen A320 Flugsimulator, der durch die vorhandenen Instrumente zusammen mit der großen Video-Leinwand ein realitätsnahes Erlebnis bereitstellte. Neu dazugekommen ist der Simulator für Kampfflugzeuge, bei dem eine F18 durch einen virtuellen Parkour geflogen werden konnte. Auch andere Missionen wie die Luft-zu-Luft Betankung und Flugzeugträgerlandungen konnte der Simulator abbilden.

Virtual Air Traffic Control und Flight Simulator Demonstration at ILT

Last weekend the annual FlightSimmING of VATSIM Germany took place at the ILT. The event, which was open to the public from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., offered an interesting format for getting to know the topic but also for trying it out.

In an online simulation world in which numerous aircraft actively take off, fly to their destination and land again, constant air traffic monitoring, known as air traffic control, is necessary, just as in reality. This was done by a group of around 20 people. There is also real radio communication between the controllers and the corresponding pilots.

The visitors were also able to carry out a virtual flight themselves on the institute's own A320 flight simulator, which provided a realistic experience thanks to the available instruments and the large video screen. A new addition was the fighter aircraft simulator, in which an F18 could be flown through a virtual parkour. The simulator was also able to depict other missions such as air-to-air refueling and aircraft carrier landings.
